WELCOME TO CROATIA, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA & MONTENEGRO

Croatia is decidedly “bi” with its superb coastal attributes adjacent to an equally picturesque interior festooned with soaring mountains and pristine lakes. In Zagreb, Croatia's capital, we are treated to the sights and sounds of a city that displays a unique blend of Eastern and Western European influences. At the Plitvice we admire spectacular vistas provided by 16 lakes, each at a different level, joining together in cascading waterfalls. The historic town of Zadar was once the capital of Byzantine Dalmatia and offers no end of fascinating sites; our walking tours through Trogir and Hvar prove equally rewarding with their narrow streets, beautiful palaces, and majestic cathedrals. There's no better end to any tour than spending time in Dubrovnik, often referred to as 'the pearl of the Adriatic'.

ITINERARY IN BRIEF

Day 1 • Arrive in Zagreb, Croatia’s lively capital.

Day 2 • Zagreb guided city tour.

Day 3 • Departure for Varazdin region, famous for wine production. Local winery tour and tasting en route to one of the 'castles,' or private estates that has been converted to receive guests.

Day 4 • Depart for UNESCO protected Plitvice, where 16 lakes, each at a different level, join each other in a series of cascading waterfalls. Walks in the area.

Day 5 • To Trogir via Zadar, ancient capital of Byzantine Dalmatia. Trogir tour and overnight nearby.

Day 6 • Travel by ferry to Hvar, "Island of the Sun."

Day 7 • Morning Hvar walking tour. Optional hike up to the Venetian castle above town.

Day 8 • Full day boat cruise to the island of Vis and the beautiful blue grotto on the island Bisevo.

Day 9 • Cross the border into Bosnia-Herzegovina and Mostar, located “on the boundaries of civilizations.”

Day 10 • Mostar morning walking tour; cross back into Croatia and Dubrovnik via the fortified town of Ston.

Day 11 • Day trip into neighbouring Montenegro, one of Europe’s newest countries. Visit Kotor and Budva, return to Dubrovnik.

Day 12 • Half-day Dubrovnik walking tour.

Day 13 • Departure from Dubrovnik.

ACCOMMODATION
Well-located, air-conditioned, mid-range hotels and inns (3/4 star) used throughout. Some hotels are smaller properties (3-4 storey) that may not have elevators. All hotels have en suite bath. Porter service is sometimes available though you should be independent with your luggage. Single rooms are limited in number and likely smaller than twins.

TRANSPORT & TRAVEL CONDITIONS
Most land transport is by private air-conditioned motor coach, +/- 24 seats depending on ultimate group size (see 'group size'). Some shorter journeys via public bus or taxi. Scenic day ferry crossings on scheduled lines.

WEATHER/SEASONALITY
This tour is offered in spring and early autumnl when temperatures are relatively mild, crowds a bit thinner, airfares lower, and ferry schedules more convenient. spring is popular with visitors who enjoy green landscapes and wildflowers. The region has a mild Mediterranean climate with early springs, long hot and dry summers and autumns that are bright and warm into late October. Showers are possible in spring and possible, though unlikely, in autumn.
